Richard Branson needs no introduction, as the founder of Virgin and the author of Losing my Virginity, Richard is well known as an entrepreneur and a man committed to success. I think Branson is a self-leader as he sets his own course and is not afraid to make mistakes and learn from them. I like the following quote from him:
“My biggest motivation? Just to keep challenging myself. I see life almost like one long university education that I never had – every day I’m learning something new.
Les Brown is one of America’s greatest motivational speakers; he was born black in 1945 in a low-income section of Miami, Florida in an abandoned building. He was subsequently given up for adoption by a 38 year old single woman. Les decided to get into public radio and kept returning to the same radio station time and time again looking for a break, and it wasn’t until the on-air failures of the afternoon DJ that he took his break in radio into his own hands and was hired full time as on-air talent. Les is also a resilient self-leader who shares my view on responsibility:
“Accept responsibility for your own life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.”
