S.H.I.T is an acronym for Situation, Habits, Inner Dialogue and Turbulence.
Understanding your S.H.I.T is the key to self-leadership and to Lead Your Life.
S.H.I.T for Motivation.
We have no choice about the situation of our birth, our parents, our culture or early schooling. Past situations lead to us developing habits of behavior that can either enhance or inhibit our motivation and chances of success.
If your current situation is not where you want it to be, awareness of your habits and your inner dialogue is essential to transforming your life.
Turbulence is the stuff that happens in life, things like losing a job, losing a loved one, financial loss, embarrassment or harassment. Just like turbulence in an aircraft, life gives us bumps but when we overcome these bumps we arrive safely at our destination.
Identifying your S.H.I.T and realizing you want something better will motivate you to change. Here are series of self coaching questions to help you to do so.
Choose an area of your life (Health, Relationships or $$$) that is not optimum and ask yourself:
What is happening?
How is it happening?
Whose responsibility is it?
Does it always need to be like this?
In reference to the above situations, think about your current behaviors:
What do you regularly do or not do about this situation?
How do you do these behaviors?
Who or what taught you to behave this way?
Do these behaviors get you what you want?
Are these behaviors in line with who you want to be?
What do you typically say to yourself in this situation?
What is the tone of this voice?
Does this voice empower you?
Whose voice is it?
Consider what challenges you are currently facing:
Is this just about you, or are other people affected?
Is this challenge about all areas of your life or just one part?
Will this challenge last forever or is it just temporary?
