Executive Coaching has become a core part of leadership development with most organizations now engaging executive coaches for their leaders and future leaders.
Executive Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance”. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them. Clients say coaching brings out their best by helping them focus, break down tasks and clarify their values.” – Fortune Magazine
We have an international panel of experienced Executive Coaches and are able to provide 1:1 sessions for individuals or provide organizational coaching for leadership transformation.
Executive Coaching – What is it?
The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as: “Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”
At SLI we think of coaching as a series of confidential conversations focused on facilitating strategic self-awareness about what underlies behavior, actions, reactions, and interactions. We assist the coachee to gain insight into how they execute business strategies, and manage change, conflict and people.
When providing executive coaching in an organizational context we focus on objectives that are aligned between sponsor (usually the line manager), the coachee and the coach. The success of the coaching assignment will be measured against these objectives.
In the past coaching was used only to fix toxic behaviors, but today coaching is about developing the capabilities of high potential performers and leaders. Harvard Business Review (Jan 2009) reviewed the field of executive coaching and found that the top 3 reasons for engaging an executive coach were:
- To develop high potentials or facilitate a transition
- To act as a sounding board
- To address some derailing behavior.
Several studies have been conducted to ascertain the return on investment (ROI) of coaching; a Fortune Magazine survey found a 600% ROI on Executive Coaching whilst Merrill C. Anderson, Ph.D calculated a whopping 788%.
